MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE) After the kissing and telling (and taping) comes the apologizing.

Hayden Kho, the beauty doctor who video-taped his bedroom trysts with women (including actress Katrina Halili and other celebrities) apparently without their knowledge and consent, has said sorry for his actions.

On Friday, a repentant Kho appeared on television and said: “I deeply regret what has happened because of my poor judgment.”

“All I feel now is deep remorse,” he said. “I know it’s too much to ask for forgiveness right now. Pero sana someday people will learn to condemn the sin and not the sinner.”

In a statement sent to the Inquirer and other media outfits Thursday night, Kho said that “the filming of an intimate, strictly personal and private act is most unfortunate and truly regrettable, and I sincerely apologize for the harm it has done to other parties.”

But Kho noted that “there was no malice on my part, or intention to hurt anyone with these recordings,” adding that the videos were uploaded on the Internet and reproduced in DVDs “without my knowledge and consent.”

He said that he has decided to “suspend” his medical practice. Halili had petitioned the Professional Regulation Commission to revoke Kho’s medical license.

Kho said that “this incident has had a mental and emotional effect on my being — as well as… on [the] victims.”

He pointed out that “the root cause of this deserves deeper internal analysis, therefore I have been undergoing professional counseling since December.”

In an exclusive interview with the Inquirer, actress Katrina Halili said she was not sure how she would react if she saw her former lover in public.

“It’s shocking. I never thought he could do something like that,” she said of the videos.

Told that Kho has apologized for his actions, Halili seemed unmoved.

“I want him punished. I want him jailed,” she asserted. “I will not give up. Tuloy ang laban.”

GMA 7, Halili’s home network, expressed support for Halili “in her fight for justice.” The network said it was “confident that she will emerge from this episode a better, stronger person. GMA continues to trust her as an artist and awaits her return to do the projects lined up for her.”

Halili said that she was “setting aside work for the meantime because I want to focus on the cases I filed against Hayden. I want him to pay for what he did to me and other women.”

She encouraged other victims to come forward. “We shouldn’t allow him to get away with what he did.”

Lolit Solis, talent manager and a friend of another high-profile cosmetic surgeon and Kho’s ex-girlfriend, Vicki Belo, echoed Halili’s sentiments.

“I don’t buy that he had no malice in making those recordings,” Solis told the Inquirer. “He bragged about the videos to his fraternity brothers—one of whom copied and leaked the videos to the public.”

She said that she was furious at Kho for betraying her friend, Belo, who was in a relationship with him at the time most of these recordings were made.

“I told Vicki that I can forgive her because I know she has a good heart, but I’m not so sure about Hayden,” Solis said. “I’m not convinced by his statement. I want him to show remorse.”

Online reports have compared Kho with Hong Kong actor Edison Chen, whose sex videos with actresses were also posted online. Chen had to flee Hong Kong—dogged by intrigues and death threats.

Halili said Kho should also suffer, but doesn’t want him to leave the country.

“He should face us in court,” she said.

Solis noted that it seems “Kho has yet to own up to his crime. He keeps blaming other people for what happened. He blames the girls for seducing him. He blames his friends for stealing and releasing the videos. He refuses to take responsibility for his actions.”

Solis said that Kho claims that “the videos are souvenirs from his past romances. Like a journal or diary.”

Asked about rumors of a video starring Belo and Kho, Solis quipped: “I won’t be surprised if it’s true.”

According to three sources, Kho also recorded an encounter with Belo.

“That was the reason why Vicki was crying a few days ago,” said a source. “Since Hayden assured her that it was just for the two of them, she agreed to do the video with him. But it’s tamer compared to the others.”

A Belo insider told the Inquirer that there was an extortion angle in this case. “Someone demanded P4 million from Belo in exchange for her video with Kho.”

Another source said that Belo’s video is in the hard disk that was allegedly copied by Kho’s friend, businessman Eric Chua, without Belo’s consent.

According to Solis, Chua is in the business of selling DVD duplicating equipment. A Belo insider alleges that Chua owns DVD stores all over the country.

Edu Manzano, head of the Optical Media Board, said that his organization’s research showed that Chua owns a computer shop.

In previous reports, Manzano was quoted as saying that Chua sold the Halili-Kho video to pirates for P2 million.

Manzano said that there was no way of estimating how many DVD copies of the sex video flooded the streets because “most of these disks were made with computer burning equipment.”

He pointed out that “with one disc, a [piece of] computer burning equipment can produce five more copies. Anyone can burn these discs because the equipment is readily available in the market.”

Solis explained that Kho had a falling out with Chua and his other fraternity brothers. “In retaliation, they told Vicki about the sex videos last December, after which Belo and Kho broke up,” Solis recalled.

When it became apparent that Belo and Kho had reconciled recently, Solis said, “Chua and his frat friends got mad and released the videos.”

Publicly, Belo insists that she and Kho are just friends. Solis exclaimed: “Don’t tell me they just prayed and practiced yoga during their recent trips to Las Vegas and Tokyo.”

Solis is certain that Belo and Kho are back together. “Kho’s birthday was on May 20. I’m sure Vicki’s gift to him is his current lawyer. He couldn’t afford to hire someone like Lorna Kapunan.”

Adel Tamano, Belo’s lawyer, told the Inquirer that he advised his client “to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations concerning this matter.”

Tamano added that he still needs to confer with Belo and study the case thoroughly before he could issue a statement on behalf of his client.

Asked about the perception that Belo could also be a victim with the impending release of her own sex video with Kho, Tamano answered: “That perception is correct. This is now a legal case. Needless to say, I will do my best to protect the rights of my client.” With Thea Alberto, INQUIRER.net
