Since it is finally confirmed that our boxing hero Manny Pacquiao will fight against Oscar de la Hoya this coming December 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, many are still asking who among the two will win?
This was a dream match for most of us Filipinos. Heck we love Oscar de la Hoya and we hail Pacquiao as well. It will be a very much anticipated match. And a very nice close to year end event.
Many asks if it will be a fair fight. It goes something like Pacquiao’s speed versus dela Hoya’s experience. I know they both got power. But I also imagine why dela Hoya has a very clean face? Forgive me but I haven’t really tracked Oscar’s record so it makes me wonder why the smooth skin much like Mohammad Ali’s? He must be really good. Does he float like a butterfly and sting like a bee?
On the other hand, I have witnessed all of Pacquiao’s fights and I must say that even though not perfectly executed or with much finesse, I agree to the idea that Pacquiao is a powerhouse. Now he is faster and more powerful fighter than before. I always stand and curse his enemies when watching his fights. I guess I love to trash talk a lot.
I heard that this will be the last match for de la Hoya before hanging his gloves for retirement. But losing a match to Pacquiao won’t look good. But we don’t want Pacquiao to lose as well. But I’d rather have Pacquiao win over Dela Hoya. Pacquiao will have my full support.
As early as this month, bets are being prepared and the fight is a common topic during spare time. I guess I better have my bets placed as well.
I’ll be posting live results here on my blog when the fight comes… so make sure to bookmark this link.
See you when the bell rings!
Ciao!
Anyway, here is an old news about the day when the bout was confirmed
MANILA, Philippines – The silence is good.
Just trust the handlers of Manny Pacquiao and Oscar de la Hoya.
The negotiating teams of both fighters remained mum about a de la Hoya announcement to be made Thursday (Friday, Manila time).
ESPN.com confirmed that it would be about the Pacquiao-de la Hoya fight which was finally, finally signed and sealed.
And on December 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the blockbuster bout will be delivered.
“I made a commitment that I wouldn’t say anything and that … there would be an announcement,” Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com boxing writer Dan Rafael.
Richard Schaefer also did not confirm anything except saying that he and Arum were “able to revive the deal.”
“The fact that it has been so quiet is a good sign,” de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions CEO said.
Freddie Roach, a fierce advocate of the Battle Royale, has been optimistic about the megabuck fight from the get-go. He told Rafael that Pacquiao left him a voice-mail message Wednesday morning.
“He left me the messages and at the end of one of them, he said, ‘Thanks for all your help,’” Roach said.
“I read that as the fight is done.”
Negotiations came to a stalemate just last week after the two fighters refused to give in to each other’s pay-cut demands.
How the prize money, which has been estimated to reach $100 million, will be split has not been bared.
“I’m not allowed to make any comments. Everything will be clear on Thursday,” Arum added. – GMANews.TV
