I really like Yakult so much since I was a little kid. I remember crying just to be bought a pack. I’ll drink it all throughout the afternoon.

Just about a month ago, I started drinking one or two bottles a day as part of my regular diet — then came this very frightening Melamine Scare.

What is Yakult By the way? —-> a question that I know little of the answer

Yakult is made from skimmed milk powder, sugar, water and our live probiotic strain of good bacteria called Lactobacillus casei Shirota.

What’s in Yakult bottles?

Yakult is made from a mixture of skimmed milk powder, sugar and water which is ultra-heat treated, then fermented using  our live probiotic strain  called Lactobacillus casei Shirota. We add nature-identical flavours, then pour the Yakult into our unique little bottles. From start to finish, it takes about a week.

So they say that it helps the stimulation of good bacteria on our intestines — GOOD INDEED!!! (But what about the milk?)

However good it might be, I really can’t take my mind off the fact that one of Yakult’s main ingredient is skimmed milk. Skimmed milk is by the way INCLUDED as one of the products from China with Melamine in case you really don’t know.

Being in the Philippines, makes me worry more since our local market is very open to Chinese products. Its like we are avid consumers of imports from their country. I really can’t comment much on this since our economy is nothing near compared to Singapore.

What I am trying to say here is that what if some of those Yakult that I have been drinking came from China. They say we have a production plant of Yakult here in the Philippines. But I read on the site above that preparation could take a week for a batch of Yakult to be ready for consumption. So it is really possible that some could be exports from China.

I guess I am really paranoid, but who cares!? maybe some of you are happy right now that I ingested Melamine — but I don’t give a damn.

They say that ingesting a regular dose of Melamine is like smoking. Both are harmful but not really until it accumulates to the point of explosion.

Bear Brand (a local milk product manufacturer) had came up with their own version of Yakult. Maybe I’ll try to switch at the meantime not until I make sure Yakult is safe.

Meanwhile, I’ll be monitoring updates regarding the China scandal.
