San Miguel Beer Oktoberfest 2008: 120 Days Aapaw Ang Saya

The event will take place just outside our office (we are along San Miguel Ave.). So after office hours, we are sure to expect a lot of “people-traffic” outside.
Yesterday it was just tents being set which made us wonder what was going to happen? Then somebody told us that it was going to be the venue for this year’s Oktoberfest 120.
I really don’t know why 120? But it was stated in the subtitle of the poster that it is 120 days of happiness. So it literally means 3 months of beer drinking days starting this September then October up to November.
I think my officemate Rick of Project Manila was invited on a conference held about this event. So we have this flyer that he gave (scanned/photocopied) about the Oktoberfest 120.
It mentions a lot about the ticket prices and descriptions. Here they are:

This year, San Miguel will be doing something different, not your usual Oktoberfest. Last night, we were invited to the press launch of San Miguel Oktoberfest. I know you guys are excited of what’s in store for this much awaited event this year.
First, the limited edition San Miguel Oktoberfest Beer will be unveiled to the public on the start of the beer drinking fiesta. We were able to taste it and it’s really good. It’s not that bitter and it’s between a San Mig Pale Pilsen and San Mig Light. The operative word here is that it’s LIMITED so you have to taste this one before it’s too late!
Second, San Miguel Pale Pilsen will be attempting to break 2 Guiness World Records: Longest beer bar and Most number of people toasting. The beer bar will be at San Miguel Avenue, Ortigas from Julia Vargas to Lourdes Avenue ( that would be 600 meters).
Third, ( and I really intended this to be the last) is that Third Eye Blind will be performing for the Opening of the Oktoberfest together with 40 other local bands. There will be a simultaneous launching from different parts of the Philippines in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Olongapo and Sta. Rosa City.

As anticipation for the month-long, worldwide beer festival called “Oktoberfest” grows, the Philippines’ well-loved beer brand San Miguel Pale Pilsen will attempt to put the country on the Guinness World Records for the most number of people toasting and the longest beer bar.
San Miguel Pale Pilsen, the country’s first and most renowned brew, will try to get Filipinos on the record books by holding the biggest Oktoberfest celebration ever and getting beer lovers to raise their glasses and toast at the same time. The current record is 13,500 people, set by the United States in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The venerable beer brand is also setting its sights on another world record – for the longest bar. The event will feature a 600-meter bar area which will stretch throughout San Miguel Ave from Julia Vargas to Lourdes Ave. to best the current record of 240 meters held by Taiwan.
The world record attempts are set to take place on September 5, Friday, all over Ortigas Center in Mandaluyong City, at the kick-off of this year’s celebration of San Miguel Oktoberfest. The event is open to all.
San Miguel Pale Pilsen will set up four stages along San Miguel Avenue to accommodate around 40 of the country’s hottest bands, including a popular foreign band, to provide entertainment to the toasting crowd.
On the same day, San Miguel Oktoberfest Siento Bente will also be welcomed simultaneously in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu; Iloilo, Davao, Olongapo and Sta. Rosa City.
San Miguel Oktoberfest, recognized by the Department of Tourism (DoT) as an official fiesta celebration, will start a month early to extend the festivities to 120 days– the longest Oktoberfest celebration in the world.

On September 5, no other than popular American alternative rock band Third Eye Blind will join Filipinos in welcoming San Miguel Oktoberfest, said to be the biggest, grandest, “fiesta ng Barkada” in the country to date.
Third Eye Blind, known for its hits Semi-Charmed Life, Graduate, Losing a Whole Year, Jumper and How’s It Going to Be, will be the highlight of more than 40 of the hottest bands that will play nationwide during the simultaneous opening celebrations of this year’s San Miguel Oktoberfest in Ortigas, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao and Laguna.
