I was enjoying the cold weather at the mountains while I was missing out on the once in a lifetime reunion concert of Ely Buendia and his band the Eraserheads. I wished to watch them but the motorcycle trip to Baguio was more tempting.
I got no news as to what had happened to the concert until my officemate told me that Ely Buendia had a breakdown of some sort. It turn out to be that the band was not able to finish the 1500 worth each person concert afterall.
But it seems that people are satisfied even though they only got half of what they paid.
This is the songs that they were able to play:
1. Alapaap
2. Ligaya
3. Sembreak
4. Hey Jay
5. Harana
6. Fruitcake
7. Toyang
8. Kama Supra
9. Kailan
10. Wag Kang Matakot
11. Kaliwete
12. With A Smile
13. Shake Yer Head
14. Wag Mo Nang Itanong
15. Lightyears
The rest I really don’t know but my guess is that the rest will be some of the following:
1. Magasin
2. Sa Wakas
3. Ang Huling El Bimbo
4. Waiting for the Bus
5. Pare Ko
6. Overdrive
7. Superproxy
8. Para Sa Masa
9. Tindahan Ni Aling Nena
10. Tuwing Umuulan
11. Hard To Believe
12. Maling Akala
13. Tikman
14. Minsan
15. Torpedo
16. Spolarium
Well to put some fact into it, I’ve searched some from excerpts from Sun Star and Inquirer

Eraserheads concert cut short; vocalist rushed to hospitalTHE long-awaited reunion concert of most-admired band Eraserheads was cut short Saturday night as frontman Ely Buendia was rushed to the hospital.
Shortly before the band had to take an intermission break at 9:30 in the evening, Buendia, during the last part of his song, bended down on his knees while holding his chest.
During the break, Buendia’s sister told the audience of the bad news.
“We apologize for cutting this concert short. My brother has to be rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Again we apologize and thank you all of you for coming tonight.”
Buendia thanked the crowd and appealed for prayers for his brother.
“Thank you everyone for supporting the reunion of Eraserheads,” she said.
She also explained that perhaps his brother’s poor health is due to stress.
“My brother’s poor health could have been caused by emotional or physical stress that he is experiencing,” she explained.
The crowd was silent after hearing the bad news.
The three-hour concert was cut short.
Reports said Buendia’s condition could have been caused by “extreme exhaustion” when his mother passed away last August 28 due to cardiac arrest.
Despite the band vocalist’s physical and emotional situation, the concert had to push through.
The family of Buendia did not however confirm that the vocalist had a heart attack.
He was first rushed to the Makati Medical Center at 10 p.m. for first aid treatment and was transferred to the Philippine Heart Center.
Buendia suffered from a heart attack in January 2007. He had successfully undergone two angioplasty surgeries.
The Eraserheads reunion concert became controversial due to its first sponsor, a tobacco company, which was condemned by some concerned groups from sponsoring concerts and other promotional events.
The concert managed to push through when a new sponsor took over bringing in some changes in the show.
In a television interview last Sunday, Buendia’s wife Diane Ventura replied said the singer is now fine.
“He is now stable. He is safe from harm. Tell the fans not to worry,” the wife said.
The family continued to request for privacy from the media.
Eraserheads was one of the most popular bands in the 1990s. They unfortunately disbanded in 2002. Some band members are now part of several famous rock bands. (JRDB/Sunnex)

The Eraserheads Reunion Concert was cut short Saturday night when lead singer Ely Buendia was rushed to the Makati Medical Center after collapsing backstage during a 20-minute intermission of the planned 30-song concert.
The concert’s sudden end was announced by Buendia’s sister Lally who went onstage with Ely’s band mates Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro and concert organizers stating that the band’s lead vocalist and songwriter was in poor health. The band members apologized to the audience for cutting short their performance.
MTV Philippines President Francis Lumen asked the crowd for a minute of silence to pray for Buendia’s health.
“He had a slight attack because of stress due to the recent passing of his mother (Lisette Buendia), and their sound check which lasted till 3 a.m. today (Saturday),” said MTV Philippines and Radiohead director for marketing Ronald Esguerra in an interview with INQUIRER.net. “But we have received word that Ely is now in stable condition.”
Organizers also belied erroneous reports that Buendia is undergoing triple bypass surgery, adding that the Eraserheads frontman actually wants to check out of the Makati Medical Center and go instead to his personal doctor.
According to Jing Garcia, former music journalist and currently technology editor at Manila Times and a friend of the Eraserheads members, Buendia collapsed backstage after the last song before the intermission, which was “Lightyears.” The band had already played 15 songs by then.
Buendia suffered a heart attack on January 7, 2007 and had already undergone surgery.
The concert, which was staged at the Fort Bonifacio Global City open field in Taguig, started at around 8:15 p.m. and paused for a break at around 9:30 p.m.
The Eraserheads opened their much-awaited reunion concert with “Alapaap” and “Ligaya,” complete with fireworks display.
After waiting at the open field for an hour since the intermission hoping for further developments, loyal fans of the band calmly left the concert area after being treated to a thrilling first set.
MTV Philippines’ Esguerra said that while he is hoping for a second Eraserheads reunion concert, there is still no word on whether another one would be staged.
“We have received no word of a Part Two but we also hope there will be one,” he said. With a report from Pocholo Concepcion, Philippine Daily Inquirer
