DoH names docs, nurses in Cebu ‘canister scandal’
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DoH) has named the three doctors and two nurses of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City who may face charges for the so-called “canister scandal.”Secretary Francisco Duque III identified the VSMMC medical staff as head surgeon Philips Leo Arias; assistant surgeons Angelo Linawagan and Max Joseph Montecillo; nursing attendant Rosemarie Villareal; and circulating nurse Carmina Sapio.
Duque said at a press conference Tuesday at the DoH main office in Manila that more persons may be named respondents, depending on the outcome of the preliminary investigation.
The violations they may be charged with, the secretary said, range from simple neglect to grave misconduct. But he emphasized that before administrative charges are filed, due process must be observed.
“I would like to clarify and stress, no charges have been filed as of yet because we need to follow certain procedures. It behooves upon us to make sure that the processes, the procedures are being followed. Ayaw nating ma-teknikal tayo [We don’t want to be caught in a technicality],” the DoH secretary pointed out.
He explained that, while the VSMMC and the DoH Central Visayas have conducted their respective fact-finding investigations, the hospital still has to issue show-cause letters to the respondents and allow them to explain why they should not be charged.
It is only after they have responded can the DoH conduct a preliminary investigation into the possible filing of administrative charges, during which the levels of participation and corresponding sanctions will be determined.

I am glad that I managed to save a copy of the video from the Youtube link I posted… its about 6.72mb. (hehe, who wants a copy?)
But I think that they prohibit distribution of the video that is why youtube always removes it… where is our freedom to know the truth?

re: canister scandal
it seems that You tube removed the video a couple of minutes ago… So what now?
_____________

not for the faint heart
I know this had been past news already… However, after I finally watched the video, I felt that I must say my side against it.
This is also for those who have not seen it personally, but only a word of caution… The video was quite uneasy to watch specially that my stomach felt a bit awkward as they were plucking the canister out.
A little summary : This is the video taken using a cellphone camera (i think) by one of the doctor/nurse who attended that operation of the Guy/Gay who intentionally placed an Avon Blue Suede canister on his ass–hole (forgive the word..please) during a play session…
I think the ones responsible for this mess had been named already on television… But that I leave for you to find out. =)
Here is the You tube link for you to watch : Cebu Hospital Scandal
Personally, I really feel angry at the Doctors, Nurses or whoever are those idiots were inside the operating room. Professionally speaking, they have crossed the boundaries. Letting that much people alone during the operation, with the patient’s privacy violated, the laughing/giggling and the footage from the cellphones — was enough reason for them to be humiliated publicly as well. I think it should be the same way like what they have done…
I heard over the news that they ( the hospital administrators) were only blaming a student nurse for the trouble, as in ONLY ONE student… HELLO! how many people were there on the footage holding their cellphone near the guy’s ass? I mean come one, it is like those Gang rape videos thats scattered all over the internet.
This is the first time I saw around 12-15 persons at an operating room attending to one patient… Funny, nah… stupid
What was the hospital’s name again? right… Vicente Sotto Hospital — where all the employees will take a video of your operation
Your doctors should revoke their licenses.
___
Also… a word of advice to the gay guy… You shouldn’t have done that in the first place. Then you wouldn’t have gone through those things.
Kids… please don’t do this, or you will be on youtube as well…heheh
Ciao!

The DOH said that it is supposed to be a wonderful and daring procedure that went well. Normally, they would have cut into the stomach and intestines to take out the can. What they did was a simple non invasive extraction.
It’s just that the jeering and other unethical actions erased all of that.
