Before I start my post, I just wanted to make it clear that I am not biased with regards to the two networks abs-cbn and gma. I just wanted to share my opinion with regards to the different versions of the Hana-Kimi series they are showing or airing.
I was really confused at first because I was never really a fan of watching tv for such series. But due to the schedule of my work, and the people at our house, I somehow became quite familiar with the Hana-Kimi shows aired on both station.
According to my research, the reason why there are two Hana-Kimi’s is because one came from Taiwan (abs-cbn’s) and the other came from Japan (gma’s).

japanese version
taiwan version
I also noticed that abs-cbn placed a “the original” tag on their version while gma placed a “latest and the best” or something like that which means that the Taiwan version came first… right?
ABS CBN aired the Taiwanese version of Hana Kimi which was first broadcasted in 2006, while GMA will air the Japanese version Hanazakari no Kimitachi e which was first broadcasted in 2007; both dramas were adapted from the Japanese manga. Taiwan has produced this drama in 2006, starring Ella Chen and Wu Chun etc. and achieved great ratings; and because of its popularity and success, Fujitv was prompted to make the Japanese version as well…
So which is better? Well, in my personal and humble opinion I think the abs-cbn’s version is much better. There, I said it, go ahead GMA fans, kapusos and clobber me. But again I am not biased into saying this. I like computers than television…so what do I really care who wins.
Here is why:
First thing is the characters or the actors/actress who played the roll. The Taiwan version made a pretty good choice.
The girl is very funny and realistic. The way she acts seems very normal unlike the girl in the japan version wherein it seems she overreacts it.
The two guys in the Taiwan version participates a lot, they really contribute to how the story develops. The love triangle they caused is pretty exciting to watch.
Of course, there are the other cast like the school doctor, the friends and bullies.
Frankly, i like the Taiwanese version better as it is funnier and “kakakilig”, as well as the story line is much closer to the manga series compared to the japanese version which totally was way different than the manga…..
Well, I’m just glad that ABS has the taiwanese version, i know they’ll do a very good job when it comes to dubbing this drama (well, as always, i just noticed). GMA on the other hand is just awful when it comes to dubbing, i mean aside from the fact that it lacks timing, the voices always doesnt fit the characters!
My friends said that they hated GMA when they re- broadcasted Meteor Garden. I somehow agree to them that their dubbers can’t even pronounce Dao Ming Si’s name properly! and Shan Cai’s and Qinghe’s dubbed were not quite what they are to expect. They made Shan Cai sound like a big girl, hehe. Compared to ABS’s dubbing that it totally reflects and very similar to the voices of the original actors….
All in all, the way the Taiwan version’s execution was pretty lively and lets you anticipated the next episode. Well, unlike on the Japanese version, I didn’t want to watch it after a couple of shows — found it very lousy (sorry for the word) =(
Anyway, its just my opinion… you can say whatever you want but I stand by it…
Ciao!
