With the unstoppable rise to fame of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, some people thinks that he might have replaced Jose Rizal as the national hero of the Philippines.
I myself constantly hear and read how the media (also President Arroyo ) keeps on praising the fearsome boxer as a role model of courage and pride of all filipinoes.
If you ask a child or someone about who is Jose Rizal, he may answer you with a “Who the hell is he!?” or even give you a mindless thought gesture. But if asked about Pacman, he will answer “Oh, he is a great boxer, a hero indeed”.
So I came with this very simple question — is Manny the new national hero? Beats the hell out of me…
